In October 2012, Fondazione Opes was established for the specific purpose of investing patient capital in high social impact enterprises. The first investment areas were India and East Africa.
In 2016, the Foundation teamed up with Lcef Trust in London and together set up the Opes-Lcef group (Opes Lcef Foundation in Italy and Opes-Lcef Trust in UK), which to date manages a total portfolio of over 50 investments (www.opesfund.eu).
In 2018, the Opes-Lcef Foundation launched the Italian pilot program with the aim of incubating and promoting a dedicated Impact Investing fund. The 4 current partners began to collaborate under the pilot leveraging on their different experiences in Impact Investing, VC &PE and social enterprise industry.
In December 2019, Opes Italia received authorization from the Bank of Italy and since January 2020 has been registered as Sicaf. The first closing took place in November 2020.
